Wambua Names Four Debutants in Kenya Shujaa Squad for Mauritius Sevens

Kenya Shujaa head coach Kevin Wambua has handed four players their international debuts after naming a 12-man squad for the second leg of the 2026 Africa Men’s Sevens Series in Mauritius.

Kabras Sugar centre Patrick Sabatia, Menengai Oilers’ Glacious Owino, Mwamba’s Dennis Livoi and Oilers speedster Lucky Onyango have earned their first Shujaa call-ups following impressive performances during the recently concluded National Sevens Circuit.

Glacious Owino, in particular, enjoyed an outstanding circuit campaign, finishing among the leading try scorers with 24 tries and earning recognition for his consistency and attacking threat.

The quartet will form part of a squad blending emerging talent with experienced campaigners as Kenya prepares for the two-day tournament at the SPARC International Rugby Stadium in Cascavelle on October 3 and 4.

KCB Rugby captain Elvis Olukusi and Kabras RFC’s Rayvone Ambale have been named co-captains. Olukusi led KCB to the National Sevens Circuit title, while Ambale has been entrusted with a leadership role as Shujaa begins its Mauritius assignment.

The full squad comprises Elvis Olukusi, Rayvone Ambale, Gabriel Ayimba, Brian Mutua, Patrick Sabatia, Clinton Amukwachi, David Nyangige, Glacious Owino, Dennis Livoi, Arnold Agonda, Lucky Onyango and Victor Mola.

Kenya has been drawn in Pool B alongside Namibia, Réunion and Madagascar, with Shujaa opening its campaign against Namibia at 8:44am EAT on Saturday, October 3. They will then face Réunion at 11:50am before completing their pool matches against Madagascar at 2:40pm.

The Mauritius tournament is the second competition of the revised 2026 Africa Men’s Sevens Series, with eight teams set to compete in Cascavelle.

Shujaa will depart for Mauritius on Thursday, October 1, before returning home for the 28th edition of Safari Sevens, scheduled for October 9 to 11 at Nyayo National Stadium.

The Mauritius assignment provides an opportunity to test a new group of players at international level while maintaining a core of experienced campaigners ahead of another major home tournament.
