The official sponsors of the Kenyan Premier League, SportPesa, have unveiled the nominees for the October editions of the SportPesa League Player and Coach of the Month Awards, recognizing the outstanding performers who lit up the league during the month. Voting is now open to the public, giving fans the opportunity to decide who walks away with the prestigious monthly honors.
For the Player of the Month, four standout performers have made the shortlist ; Michael Kibwage, Enock Morrison, and Shariff Musa from Gor Mahia, alongside Vincent Mahiga from AFC Leopards. Each player made a strong case with their form and consistency throughout October.
Shariff Musa was pivotal in Gor Mahia’s perfect October run, featuring in all three matches, scoring once, providing one assist, and creating five goal-scoring chances. His attacking spark and creativity proved instrumental in helping Gor Mahia maintain their dominance.

At the back, Michael Kibwage led by example with commanding defensive performances. The Gor Mahia defender played all three matches, keeping three clean sheets, and recording 14 clearances, five interceptions, and two crucial blocks. His reliability and organization at the heart of defense were key to the team’s spotless record.

Midfield powerhouse Enock Morrison continued to shine in his deep-lying role, ensuring Gor Mahia’s backline was well-protected while initiating attacking play. His impressive October numbers include 16 progressive passes, seven interceptions, 90% pass accuracy, and four second-ball recoveries, all contributing to Gor Mahia’s fluid control of games.

For AFC Leopards, Vincent Mahiga emerged as a steady presence in defense. The left-back featured in all four of Ingwe’s matches, registering 22 clearances, 10 interceptions, and five blocks, while keeping one clean sheet. Despite conceding four goals, Mahiga’s leadership and composure remained a bright spot for Leopards throughout the month.

The eventual SportPesa League Player of the Month winner will receive Ksh 50,000 in cash and a customized trophy courtesy of the league sponsors.
In the Coach of the Month category, four tacticians have been shortlisted for their impressive performances and team results in October — Charles Akonnor (Gor Mahia), Fred Ambani (AFC Leopards), Charles Okere (Tusker FC), and Patrick Odhiambo (Kakamega Homeboyz).
Gor Mahia’s Charles Akonnor enjoyed a flawless month, guiding his side to three wins from three matches, scoring six goals and conceding none. His tactical structure and balance have been central to Gor Mahia’s dominance and defensive perfection.
AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani continued to restore belief among Ingwe supporters, collecting eight points from four games (two wins, two draws). His team scored six goals, conceded four, and kept one clean sheet, showing steady improvement in both attack and defense.
Charles Okere led Tusker FC to an unbeaten run, also amassing eight points from four matches through two wins and two draws. His side conceded only two goals, scored four, and managed two clean sheets, reflecting a disciplined and organized approach.
Meanwhile, Patrick Odhiambo of Kakamega Homeboyz oversaw an exciting attacking month, winning four and losing one of their five matches. His team scored nine goals, conceded five, and kept one clean sheet – a testament to his attacking mindset and tactical bravery.
The Coach of the Month winner will take home Ksh 75,000 and a trophy courtesy of SportPesa.
This award announcement comes two months after SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri officially launched the 2025/26 SportPesa League season, where he revealed that the league would feature regular monthly awards and a grand end-of-season gala to celebrate excellence in Kenyan football.
“There will be Player of the Month awards for the SportPesa League, and also an end-of-season gala to award the best performing players, coaches, and teams,” said Ronald Karauri during the official launch.
