Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has unveiled a new Cabinet for her second term in office, making notable appointments that include her daughter and the son of former President Jakaya Kikwete.

In a televised address from Chamwino State House in Dodoma on Monday, President Samia named 27 ministers and 29 deputy ministers, saying the team would work with her to “fulfil the fundamental responsibility of serving the citizens.”

Her daughter, Wamu Hafidh Ameir, 43, was appointed Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology. Wamu, the Makunduchi MP in Zanzibar, retained her seat under the ruling CCM party in the October 29, 2025 general election.

Also appointed was Ridhiwani Jakaya Kikwete, 46, the son of Tanzania’s fourth president. He becomes Minister of Public Service Management and Good Governance in the President’s Office. Ridhiwani is the CCM MP for Chalinze and is seen as a close political ally of President Samia, with his father credited for supporting her rise within the party.

“This responsibility is both a duty and a debt that we must repay to the people by serving them with passion, hard work and integrity,” President Samia said.

In another significant change, Tanzania’s ambassador to China, Khamis Mussa Omar, was appointed Minister of Finance.

The reshuffle saw at least seven ministers from the previous administration dropped, including Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Doto Biteko, Agriculture CS Hussein Bashe, Home Affairs Minister Innocent Bashungwa, Health Minister Jenista Mhagama, Industries and Trade Minister Dr. Seleman Jafo, Tourism Minister Dr. Pindi Chana, and Legal Affairs Minister Dr. Damas Ndumbaro.

The newly appointed Cabinet was sworn in on Tuesday morning at Chamwino State House.
