Kindiki Hails Northeastern Leaders for Partnering with Government

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has lauded leaders from Northeastern Kenya for working closely with the Kenya Kwanza administration to accelerate development in the region.

Speaking on Sunday during the Lagdera Constituency Economic Empowerment event in Modogashe, Garissa County, the DP said the regional leadership caucus—led by Eldas MP Adan Keynan and Dadaab MP Farah Maalim—had demonstrated strong commitment to advancing progress in the area.

“We appreciate the decision by the leaders to support our President and the government. They are good leaders who love their country. We will work together to develop the region,” Kindiki said.

Earlier, he had presided over a similar event at the Tarbaj TTC grounds in Wajir County.

Key infrastructure projects in progress include the LAPSSET corridor road linking Lamu, Garissa, and Isiolo—a 315-kilometer stretch costing Sh27 billion—and the 750-kilometer Mandera–Isiolo road, a Sh100 billion investment scheduled for completion in 2027. Altogether, 1,065 kilometers of roads are under construction across Northern Kenya.

The government is also expanding electricity access, with Sh1.7 billion allocated to connect 7,200 new households in Garissa County. In Lagdera Constituency alone, Sh380 million is being invested to connect 2,100 homes. Additionally, four hybrid power generation plants in Isiolo, Wajir, and Mandera counties are expected to ease chronic power shortages.

Other ongoing projects include the construction of eight markets, six affordable housing schemes, and hostels for Garissa University, Garissa National Polytechnic, and Technical Training Institutes, all aimed at boosting economic growth.

Kindiki assured residents that President Ruto’s administration remains committed to investing in marginalized regions.

“This region is part of Kenya. Every project happening elsewhere is happening here as well. We are building roads, modern markets, expanding electricity, and other key services,” he said.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who accompanied the Deputy President, emphasized the importance of respecting Northeastern residents.

“The people of Northeastern are Kenyans like all of us. We respect them for their business acumen and investment across the country. We cannot accept any attempt to brand them otherwise,” Wetang’ula said.
