Kenya Beach Volleyball Teams Are Aiming to Secure Spots in the Africa Games Finals

In the quarterfinals and semifinals on Wednesday in Accra, Ghana, the national beach volleyball teams for men and women will be battling for a spot in the Africa Games finals.

In one of the four women’s quarterfinals matches, Egypt’s Marwa Magdy and Doaa Tawfik take on seasoned Gaudencia Makokha and her new partner, Yvonne Wavinya, at 1pm.

When they face South Africa’s Leo Williams and Danilo Von Ludwiger at 12 p.m., Jairus Kipkosgei and Elphas Makuto will be looking to upset the men’s semifinals.

Later on Wednesday, the semifinals will take place at the same location.

The women’s team defeated Mauritius and Benin in Pool E with identical 2-0 set victories, continuing their flawless start.

The Kenyan women will be aiming to surpass their performance from the 2019 competition, when they won silver after falling to Egypt in the championship match.

The men’s team, competing in their first-ever Africa Games, lost 0-2 (13-21, 19-21) in their opening Group E encounter before making amends to defeat Gambia in the second game.

They subsequently secured their spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Rwanda in the elimination round.
