The security detail assigned to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been withdrawn, he confirmed to Citizen Digital. According to the governor, officers stationed at his residence and those attached to him personally were recalled at around midnight on Wednesday.
The move comes just days after Natembeya was attacked by armed individuals during a rally in Chwele Ward, Kabuchai, Bungoma County, on November 22. The same group is reported to have raided the home of Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga.
Images and videos that circulated online showed damaged vehicles belonging to the governor. Natembeya claimed he was shot at multiple times during the chaos, accusing his rivals of orchestrating the violence.
While inspecting the destruction at Kalasinga’s residence, the governor directly linked the incident to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, alleging misuse of state power for political retaliation.
“This is primitive it is not politics,” he said. “Members of Parliament, this is your Chairman doing such things… sending goons to destroy the home of a fellow MP simply because of political differences.”
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the withdrawal of the governor’s security or the ongoing investigations into the attack.
