Chrisant Ojwang Returns to Bolster Kenya Morans for Dubai Sevens

Kenya Morans have received a significant boost ahead of the Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Cup, with the return of Chrisant Ojwang to the squad. The Nakuru RFC star rejoins the national team seven months after undergoing surgery for an injury he picked up during the opening leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai.

Ojwang, who was in outstanding form prior to the injury, will now co-captain the Morans alongside George Ooro of Strathmore Leos, as the team heads to Mauritius for the continental showdown slated for June 21–22, 2025.

The Morans squad, selected by Shujaa assistant coach Louis Kisia, features a promising mix of youth and experience. Rising stars Jackson Siketa, Philip Okeyo, Felix Okoth, Javan Otieno, and Matoka Matoka have been named in the team and will be keen to make their mark as they eye possible promotion to the senior side, Shujaa.

Veteran players George Ooro and Dennis Abukuse bring vital experience to the relatively young squad and are expected to play a guiding role both on and off the pitch.

Pace and agility will be central to the Morans’ game plan, with Floyd Wabwire of KCB and William Mwanji of Kabras Sugar—both of whom have had brief stints with Shujaa—expected to lead the attacking charge.

Also included in the 12-man squad are Brian Mutua and Lamec Ambetsa, rounding out a team that will battle it out in Pool A against regional rivals Uganda, as well as Ivory Coast and Ghana.

Pool B will see South Africa take on Burkina Faso, Zambia, and Nigeria, while Pool C features Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, and hosts Mauritius.
