Gor fall to KCB as Migori Youth make KPL history, AFC win Ingo Derby

Gor Mahia suffered their first defeat of the 2026/27 SportPesa League campaign after falling 2-1 to KCB in Embu, while newly promoted Migori Youth celebrated their maiden top-flight victory and AFC Leopards claimed bragging rights with a 2-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz in the Ingo Derby.

Robert Matano’s KCB brought Gor’s perfect start to an end at Moi Stadium, producing a disciplined performance to collect maximum points and move within two points of the league leaders.

The Bankers took the lead in the 20th minute through Batshi Assis Mambote, who capitalised on a loose delivery from Paul Kinyanjui before beating goalkeeper Kevin Omondi from close range.

Richard Omondi doubled KCB’s advantage in the 33rd minute after Gor failed to deal with an aerial ball inside the penalty area. The champions responded four minutes later when Alpha Onyango converted a penalty following a foul by Mambote.

Gor pushed for an equaliser after the break but could not break down KCB’s defence. The visitors were reduced to ten men in the 86th minute when Baron Ochieng received a second yellow card following an altercation with Ebenezer Assifuah. However, Matano’s charges held on for a memorable victory.

The defeat ended Gor’s winning start after four consecutive victories, leaving them top with 12 points from five matches. KCB moved to 10 points, firmly positioning themselves among the early title contenders.

In Awendo, Migori Youth achieved a landmark moment in their maiden Kenyan Premier League season, recording their first-ever victory in the country’s top division with a 2-0 triumph over Mombasa United at Awendo Green Stadium.

The newly promoted side had opened their campaign with three consecutive draws before finally securing maximum points in front of their home supporters.

Philemon Nyakwaka broke the deadlock from the penalty spot two minutes before half-time after a handball inside the area. Frederick Ologi sealed the historic victory five minutes from time, finishing Christopher Koloti’s cutback following a move initiated by Dennis Oguta.

The result lifted Migori Youth to six points from four matches, giving the club a significant boost in its first-ever top-flight campaign. Mombasa United, meanwhile, suffered a fourth consecutive defeat and remained without a point.

AFC Leopards also enjoyed a successful afternoon after defeating Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 at Wang’uru Stadium in the latest edition of the Ingo Derby.

Ingwe broke the deadlock two minutes before half-time through Emmanuel Lwangu, who connected with James Kinyanjui’s corner to put the Leopards ahead.

Kinyanjui then doubled the advantage in the 56th minute, finishing a cross from Adama Kanteh, who had made progress down the left flank.

The victory gave Fred Ambani’s side its second league win of the season and ended its wait for a home victory following earlier draws against Bandari and Shabana. Leopards maintained their unbeaten start, while Homeboyz suffered their second defeat.

Elsewhere, Nairobi United and Bandari FC shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Police Sacco Stadium. Said Tsuma gave Bandari the lead before Mark Kithome restored parity for Nairobi United.

APS Bomet and Murang’a Seal also settled for a point after playing out a goalless draw at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

The latest results have tightened the early title race, with KCB closing the gap on Gor Mahia to two points. Migori Youth’s historic breakthrough and AFC Leopards’ derby victory were equally significant talking points in an eventful round of SportPesa League action.
