KCB Rugby Club continued their dominance of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit on Sunday, edging Kabras Sugar RFC 12–10 in the Embu 7s final at Embu Stadium to claim their third tournament title of the season.
The victory gave the Bankers a crucial advantage in the overall championship race, opening a six-point gap over Kabras with just one leg remaining in the six-leg circuit.
KCB have now won the Prinsloo, Kabeberi and Embu 7s, while Kabras have taken the Dala and Driftwood 7s titles.
The Embu campaign saw both sides produce strong performances from the group stage through to the final.
KCB topped Pool A, recording a 22–10 win over KU Blak Blad in their opening match before beating Kisumu RFC 39–12 and completing the group stage with a commanding 52–0 victory over Mombasa RFC.
Kabras were equally impressive in Pool C, beginning with a 28–0 win against Nakuru RFC. They followed it with a 21–5 victory over Strathmore Leos before defeating Nondescripts 21–7 to finish the pool stage unbeaten.
In the quarter-finals, KCB defeated Kenya Harlequins 12–0, while Kabras overcame Mwamba RFC 22–12.
The semi-finals produced another set of competitive encounters. KCB edged Daystar Falcons 15–12 to book their place in the final, while Kabras defeated Menengai Oilers 22–5.
The final then provided another chapter in the growing rivalry between the two sides.
KCB captain Vincent Onyala opened the scoring, crossing for the first try before Austin Sikutwa converted to give the Bankers a 7–0 lead.
Kabras responded through Kenya U20 international Mike Lukusi, who touched down for an unconverted try to bring the score to 7–5 after Rayvon Ambale missed the conversion.
KCB regained their seven-point advantage when Emmanuel Opondo scored their second try, putting the Bankers 12–5 ahead.
Kabras launched a late fightback when Griffin Chao capitalised on a loose ball to score, cutting the deficit to just two points at 12–10.
The Bankers remained composed in the closing stages, holding on to secure the victory and another valuable haul of circuit points.
The result has strengthened KCB’s grip on the overall standings. The Bankers now have 98 points from five legs, while Kabras sit second on 92 points.
KCB’s campaign has been built on consistency, collecting 22 points at Prinsloo, 13 at Dala, 22 at Kabeberi, 19 at Driftwood and 22 at Embu.
Kabras have accumulated 19 points at Prinsloo, 22 at Dala, 10 at Kabeberi, 22 at Driftwood and 19 at Embu.
Menengai Oilers remain third on 75 points, followed by Daystar Falcons on 67 and Kenya Harlequin on 64.
With one leg remaining, KCB now hold the advantage in the race for the overall National Sevens Circuit crown, while Kabras must produce a strong final-leg performance if they are to overturn the six-point deficit.
In the women’s competition, Kenya Harlequin made history by defeating Kiambaa Ladies 14–0 to claim the Embu 7s title.
