FKF Lands Ksh. 4.75M Boost for WPL and NSL.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has secured a financial boost for domestic football after confirming a Ksh.4.75 million sponsorship deal with Cape Media, targeting clubs in both the FKF Women Premier League (WPL) and the FKF National Super League (NSL) for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The development comes at a critical time for the women’s top-flight league, which has recently been rocked by a boycott from clubs over unresolved issues including delayed funds, lack of sponsorship, and limited engagement with federation leadership. Earlier this week, FKF President Hussein Mohammed held a consultative meeting with WPL clubs, where both sides agreed to continue dialogue, with further discussions scheduled for April 8.

Against that backdrop, the Cape Media partnership offers a timely injection of resources, particularly for women’s football, which has been at the center of recent tensions.

Under the sponsorship structure, WPL clubs will receive a combined Ksh. 2.95 million. Each of the 12 clubs in the league will be allocated Ksh. 100,000 in direct grants, while performance-based rewards have also been introduced. The league champions will earn Ksh. 1 million, with Ksh. 500,000 set aside for the runners-up and Ksh. 250,000 for the third-placed team.

The NSL will receive Ksh. 1.8 million, with six clubs ; Luanda Villa, Vihiga United, Gucha Stars, Darajani Gogo, Kabati Youth, and Mwatate United – each receiving Ksh. 300,000 in direct support. The targeted funding is expected to ease operational pressures for clubs competing in the second tier.

The federation described the partnership as part of its broader efforts to strengthen club structures and improve sustainability across leagues.

Speaking on the deal, FKF President Hussein Mohammed emphasized the broader impact of investing in grassroots and women’s football, noting that such support extends beyond competition.

“Increased investment in grassroots and women’s football creates measurable social impact beyond the pitch. Allocating resources to safe facilities, capacity building, and structured leagues builds inclusive spaces where young people can develop trust, discipline and teamwork,” he said.

He also welcomed Cape Media’s involvement, terming it a significant step in supporting the growth of Kenyan football.

“As a federation, we extend our sincere gratitude to Cape Media for this timely and impactful investment. Their belief in the potential of Kenyan football sends a strong message, and we encourage more corporates to come on board as we work towards building a sustainable football ecosystem,” he added.
