Stalemates Dominate as Tusker, Mathare and Police, Ulinzi Share Spoils – Nairobi United Shine Away

Game week 3 of the 2025/26 SportPesa League kicked off on Tuesday and continued with 3 matches today setting the tone for a full week of football that will run through Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

At Dandora Stadium, Tusker FC and Mathare United played out a goalless draw that, while short on goals, offered plenty of attacking intent and drama. The match burst into life early, with Dennis Wanjala swinging in a corner for Tusker in the fourth minute that Charles Momanyi headed just wide. Barely a minute later, Eric Kapaito found space in the box and unleashed a left-footed strike that rattled the woodwork.

Mathare United immediately responded with their own attack as James Kinyanjui came close, striking the upright after a solo run into the area. The winger continued to torment the Brewers and hit the post again in the 23rd minute in what was one of the match’s clearest chances. Tusker pushed back through Curtis Wekesa, whose free-kick was spectacularly tipped over, though controversially ruled a goal kick.

Both teams went into the break still level, and Mathare came out for the second half with a triple substitution in search of renewed energy. Okoth, Macharia, and Mungai came in, while Tusker continued to apply pressure through set pieces. Despite second-half substitutions from both benches , including enforced changes due to injury , neither side managed to find the winner, and the game ended 0-0.

At Green Stadium in Awendo, Nairobi United registered an important 1-0 away win over Mara Sugar. The winning goal came in the 50th minute through Ovella Ochieng, as the league debutants continued to build confidence following their recent CAF Confederation Cup victory(Away Goal rule) over NEC FC of Uganda. The momentum clearly carried into domestic action, with Nicholas Muyoti’s charges showing control and purpose on the road ; a valuable trait for any side hoping to survive and thrive in their maiden top-flight season.

Over at Police Pavilion, Police FC and Ulinzi Stars played to another goalless draw in the disciplined forces derby at Police Sacco Stadium. Police, fresh off CAF Champions League action where they advanced on away goals despite losing the second leg 2-0 to Mogadishu City of Somalia, looked out of sync. It was a cautious affair that offered few clear chances, and Police will feel the pressure mounting as they begin their title defense without a win.

The League resumes on Friday and will stretch across the weekend to Monday , with several clubs eyeing key results to either ignite or stabilize their campaigns.
