The dispute surrounding the abandoned SportPesa League match between Nairobi United FC and Gor Mahia FC has taken another twist after the Sports Disputes Tribunal nullified an earlier ruling by the Football Kenya Federation Leagues and Competitions Committee.

The Tribunal overturned the decision that had awarded both clubs one point each after their match was abandoned in the 58th minute last December. In that earlier determination, the Committee had allowed the 1–1 scoreline at the time of abandonment to stand.

Following a challenge filed by Nairobi United, the Tribunal found fault with the procedure used in reaching that decision. It ruled that the matter must be returned to the Leagues and Competitions Committee for a fresh hearing conducted in accordance with the 2019 FKF rules, rather than the 2025 regulations that were applied in the initial ruling.

The Committee has now been instructed to reconsider the case and issue a new decision within five days, with the deadline set for next Friday.

In a significant additional finding, the Tribunal also declared that the current Football Kenya Federation Disciplinary Committee is not legally constituted because it has not been ratified by the FKF General Assembly. As a result, the body cannot hear or determine disciplinary matters until it is properly constituted.

The ruling introduces fresh uncertainty around the outcome of the abandoned fixture and places the spotlight back on the Leagues and Competitions Committee, which must now revisit the case and deliver a determination under the correct regulatory framework.
