Police have begun a manhunt for a truck driver who killed five people in an accident near Kikopey on the Gilgil-Nakuru route.
The collision occurred at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and included a Mercedes-Benz truck whose complete registration was not visible.
According to authorities, the motorist was driving towards Nakuru when he lost control and killed two male adult pedestrians on the spot.
The motorist also collided with iron sheet buildings beside the road, killing three individuals who were playing pool.
“The same vehicle rammed onto iron sheet structures a few metres from the road killing three male adult persons who were inside playing pool table game. The same trailer caused massive damage to property, including three motor vehicles that were at a yard; a Land Rover, Peugeot 405 and Isuzu Trooper,” the National Police Service said in a statement.
According to reports, the motorist fled the site of the collision and went into hiding.
“Efforts to arrest the driver of the ill-fated vehicle are underway after he escaped the scene of the accident,” the police added.
The deceased’s remains have been sent to the Gilgil sub-county hospital mortuary.
