Kibera Soccer Women Football Club made history this afternoon at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru, by defeating four-time FKF Women’s Premier League champions Vihiga Queens 1–0 to lift their first-ever FKF Women’s Cup title for the 2024/25 season.
In a fiercely contested final, Vihiga Queens thought they had taken the lead in the 38th minute when Diana Cherono found the back of the net. However, the goal was disallowed after the referee flagged a foul on Kibera’s Mary Majeso in the buildup, much to the relief of the Kibera camp.
The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when substitute Stella Odhiambo etched her name into club folklore. In the 91st minute, Odhiambo latched onto a loose ball and unleashed a stunning half-volley that beat Vihiga Queens goalkeeper Mercy Akoth at the near post , a goal that sent the stadium into rapturous celebration. The strike not only sealed the cup for Kibera Soccer but also highlighted a tactical masterstroke by head coach David Mujejo, whose substitution proved pivotal.
The victory marked a significant breakthrough for Kibera Soccer, ending Ulinzi Starlets’ three-year grip on the domestic cup and underlining the rising stature of the Nairobi-based club.
The team was awarded the prestigious trophy by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed, while Betpawa, the competition sponsors, handed over a KSh 650,000 winners’ cheque, presented by the company’s Kenya Director, Sylvia Onyango.
