Governor Natembeya Released on Bail Amid Corruption Charges

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been granted a bail by the Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court following his arraignment on charges of corruption and conflict of interest. Magistrate Charles Ondieki set the bail at Ksh500,000 with two contact persons, or alternatively, a bond of Ksh1 million with one surety.

The court imposed stringent conditions on the governor, including a prohibition from accessing his office for 60 days, a ban on leaving the country without court approval, and a directive not to discuss the ongoing case publicly.

Governor Natembeya faces accusations of unlawfully acquiring Ksh3,252,568 through payments made by the county government to companies with which he allegedly had a conflict of interest. The charges encompass two counts of conflict of interest and one count of unlawful acquisition of public property.

As investigations continue, the court’s decision marks a significant development in the case against the governor.
