Gor Mahia maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 SportPesa League season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bandari FC at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, overcoming late kickoff confusion to register their third consecutive win.
The match, initially scheduled for 4:15 pm, had been moved to a 7:00 pm kickoff following a fan poll. However, Sports Kenya declined to approve the proposed floodlit fixture, forcing a last-minute change back to 4:15 pm today. The uncertainty did little to deter the record league champions, who continued their early pursuit of a successful title defence.
Alpha Onyango once again proved decisive, scoring in the 67th minute to hand K’Ogalo maximum points. The midfielder has now scored in all three league matches, having also found the net in the 4-2 opening victory over Murang’a SEAL before striking the winner against APS Bomet at ROSH , Homabay.
Gor had to work for Saturday’s victory against a Bandari side that proved difficult to break down. The Dockers frustrated the champions for long spells, forcing them to search for openings against an organized defence.
The match also produced a contentious moment in the first half when Gor had a goal ruled out. Videos shared after the encounter appeared to show the ball crossing the goal line, raising questions about the decision. The footage has added another talking point to a match in which Onyango’s second-half strike ultimately separated the sides.
The champions showed patience after the interval and eventually found the breakthrough before protecting their advantage to collect all three points.
The victory takes Gor to nine points from three matches, an encouraging return for a side seeking to retain the title. Their opening win over Murang’a SEAL demonstrated their attacking potential, while the subsequent narrow victories against APS Bomet and Bandari have highlighted their ability to grind out results.
Although the season remains in its early stages, K’Ogalo have given their supporters reasons for optimism. Maintaining this consistency will be crucial as the demands of the league increase and rival teams look to halt their momentum.
Elsewhere, Migori Youth and Mathare United played out a goalless draw in Awendo after heavy rainfall temporarily halted their encounter before play resumed. Ulinzi Stars and Mara Sugar also settled for a 0-0 draw, leaving Gor Mahia as Saturday’s only winning side among the three fixtures.
