FKF Leadership Crisis Deepens as NEC Orders President Hussein Mohammed to Step Aside Over KSh 42M Scandal

A storm is brewing within Football Kenya Federation (FKF) after a section of the National Executive Committee (NEC) passed sweeping resolutions calling for top leadership to step aside over alleged financial impropriety.

In documents dated April 24, 2026, NEC members outlined serious concerns regarding the governance of FKF, citing alleged misappropriation of public funds, non-compliant procurement processes, and conflicts of interest. Among the most striking claims is the alleged loss of approximately KSh 42 million from CHAN-related accounts, raising fresh questions about financial oversight within the federation.

The NEC further argued that a majority of its members had been systematically excluded from executing their constitutional roles, terming the situation a violation of the FKF constitution. They invoked provisions within the constitution that mandate the committee to act in the interest of justice and necessity, particularly in cases not explicitly covered.

In a bold move, the committee resolved that FKF President Hussein Rashid Mohammed, NEC member Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim, and Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru step aside with immediate effect to allow for investigations by relevant authorities.

The resolutions also designate Deputy President Macdonald Mariga Wanyama to assume the presidency in an acting capacity pending the outcome of investigations and a forensic audit. Additionally, the NEC has called for an urgent committee meeting and ordered the freezing of FKF bank accounts linked to the current president.

To restore public confidence, the committee has requested the appointment of an independent forensic auditor to conduct a comprehensive review of FKF’s financial affairs.

The developments signal a deepening crisis within Kenyan football administration, with the coming days expected to determine the federation’s leadership direction and credibility.
