The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a new weather advisory, cautioning Kenyans to prepare for varying conditions including rains, chilly nights, and hot afternoons across different regions this week.
According to the forecast covering the final week of August, showers will persist in parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Western, and sections of North-western Kenya. However, the department noted that rainfall intensity and spread are expected to ease compared to the previous weeks.
Intermittent cloud cover and cool mornings will be experienced in the Central Highlands, South-eastern Lowlands, Western Kenya, and the Rift Valley—conditions that could limit sunshine in the early hours.
In contrast, residents in North-eastern and North-western Kenya should expect scorching afternoons, with temperatures projected to rise beyond 30°C in several counties.
“Daytime highs above 30°C are likely in much of the North-eastern and North-western regions,” the advisory noted.
Meanwhile, cold nights are expected in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas bordering Mt. Kilimanjaro, with minimum temperatures likely to drop below 10°C.
The Met Department also warned of strong southerly to south-easterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s), expected to affect the Coast, Kenya’s territorial waters, South-eastern Lowlands, as well as North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
Residents, particularly those in coastal and semi-arid regions, have been urged to remain vigilant against possible wind-related disruptions. Farmers and pastoralists were also advised to plan accordingly, as the weather changes could impact crop production and livestock activities.
