With confirmation that Kenya’s iconic Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, will host the final match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the country has intensified preparations to ensure the stadium is ready in time for the continental showpiece.
Images recently shared by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) reveal a remarkable transformation at the facility, showcasing a significant facelift aimed at aligning the stadium with modern international standards. Among the most striking upgrades is the installation of a temporary artificial turf along the running track perimeter , a visual game-changer that has imbued the venue with a lush, uniform green tone. This creative turf solution enhances the overall aesthetic while giving the arena a seamless and classy appearance.

The seating areas have also undergone a comprehensive refurbishment. The images depict neatly arranged, color-coded molded seats stretching across the three tiers of the stadium, with upgraded roofing now offering better shade and ventilation.

From the elevated interior views, it is clear the pitch itself has received meticulous care, with fresh grass patterns cut in alternating shades to reflect world-class groundskeeping practices.

As the August tournament looms, time is of the essence. Yet, with visible evidence of accelerated work and a clear architectural direction, optimism is steadily replacing past skepticism.
The 2024 CHAN tournament, exclusive to players active in their domestic leagues , will kick off on August 2nd at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Tanzania, with matches shared among East African neighbors. Nairobi’s Kasarani will stage the final.
