Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have been crowned the 2025/26 Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League men’s champions after defeating CHEMA 3-0 in the final to secure the club’s first-ever league title.
The Dockers wrapped up the best-of-three championship series with a straight-sets victory of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-18 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, completing a 2-0 sweep after edging CHEMA in a thrilling five-set opener earlier in the series.
The triumph ends years of disappointment for KPA, who had previously fallen short in their pursuit of the national crown. This time, however, they delivered a composed and dominant performance to write a new chapter in the club’s history.
KPA started strongly, matching solid defence with quick transitions to gain an early advantage in the opening set. Although CHEMA kept the contest close through determined defending and spirited attacking play, the Dockers remained calm in the closing stages to take the set 25-21.
The second set proved equally competitive as both sides exchanged points in a fast-paced contest. KPA gradually found another gear, with setter Felix Omondi orchestrating the attack while Most Valuable Player Peter Kamara, captain Dennis Omollo and outside hitter Kelvin Wanyama consistently found ways to break through CHEMA’s defence. Their dominance in the latter stages saw the Dockers claim the set 25-20.
With the championship on the line, CHEMA fought hard to force the contest into another set, but KPA’s organised blocking and disciplined defending denied their opponents any momentum. Backed by impressive floor defence from libero Fredrick Muiruri, the Dockers maintained control before sealing the third set 25-18 to spark wild celebrations inside the packed Kasarani Indoor Arena.
Players and technical staff rushed onto the court after the winning point, celebrating a victory that had been years in the making. Team Manager Catherine Wangari, who represented Chairman and General Manager Finance Geoffrey Kavate during the final, joined the jubilant celebrations alongside KPA supporters as the club finally lifted the coveted trophy.
The victory also signals a changing of the guard in Kenyan men’s volleyball. After watching General Service Unit emerge as champions last season, KPA have now ascended to the top of the domestic game through consistency, teamwork and disciplined performances. Their maiden league triumph not only rewards an outstanding campaign but also establishes the Dockers as one of the country’s leading volleyball teams heading into the new season.
